Mangaluru: Ninth day novena prior to feast of St Lawrence held at Bondel Church

Mangaluru, Aug 9: The ninth day novena prior to the feast of St Lawrence was held at Bondel Church. The theme of the ninth day was "Honour and respect for each other is the source of unity of the family."

Fr James D’Souza, vicar var, city deanery, was the main celebrant. Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza, Fr Peter Gonsalves and Fr Theo Pinto con-celebrated the mass.

Fr James D’Souza quoted Archbishop Desmond Tutu for the devotees of St Lawrence and said, "You dont choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. Our families, like a tree may branch out in many different directions, but our roots remain firmly in the ground and will keep us together forever."

Holy Family as a “model, inspiration and guide”, knowing that Jesus, Mary, and Joseph experienced “not only the joys and happiness of being together as a family.” Holy Family is an example of serenity rooted in deep faith, courage and wisdom to trust in God.  These three gifts are much needed in our families as we need to Honor & respect for each other is the source of unity of the family," he added.

The choir was from Derebail parish under the leadership of Sheela.

The 5.30 pm mass celebrant was Fr Daniel Veigas, episcopal vicar for religious, Ashok Nagar. Fr Lancy D’Souza, Fr Melwin Pinto concelebrated the mass. The choir was from Paldane parish. Special prayers were offered for all the donors.
