113 Foreigners Held for Overstaying in Goa


Panaji, April 7 (IANS) More than 100 foreigners, including 25 Russians and 22 Nigerians, were arrested in Goa for overstaying over the last three years, the state assembly was told Thursday.

Home Minister Ravi Naik said that Russians and Nigerians topped the list of 113 arrested foreign nationals. The arrests took place between January 2008 and March this year.

Most foreigners were caught from rented houses and guest houses in coastal areas like Anjuna, Calangute and Pernem.

Nearly all of them were deported. They also included tourists from Germany, Sudan, Kenya, Israel, Finland, the Philippines, Italy, Tanzania, Oman and Argentina.
