Panaji, March 31 (IANS) Goa Police have dropped departmental action against a police inspector who was suspended for dereliction of duty during a high terror alert in 2008.

Home Minister Ravi Naik told the Goa legislative assembly Thursday that the proceedings against inspector Nelson Albuquerque have been dropped.

According to Naik's written reply tabled in the assembly, the inspector and two other constables, had "failed in their duty inspite of specific instructions to be alert and vigilant in view of terrorist threat".

Naik said that while Albuquerque was in-charge of a border police station, then inspector general of police Kishen Kumar during a surprise inspection had caught two policemen posted on the Goa-Maharashtra border extorting money.

They were "found indulging in corrupt practices with ulterior motive for personal gain and were found collecting money from vehicles crossing the checkpost".

Ever since the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes, Goa, a major beach tourism destination, had faced several terror alerts, especially during the tourist season from October to March.
