Udupi, Jul 6: “There should be the life history of Narayana Guru in the school text book as before. The long felt demand for a separate board in the name of Brahmashree Narayana Guru is not implemented yet. All the 26 groups will join under the leadership of Katpadi Vishwanath temple and stage protests from Manipal Tiger Circle till the deputy commissioner’s office on this Friday for our demands," warned Jagannath Kote, district president of Sri Narayana Guru Vichara Vedike.

Speaking at a news conference held at Udupi Patrika Bhavan, he said that a statewide campaign will be held if there is no response to the protests.

“The government and the minister of education are trying to alter the text books. The Karnataka state government and the minister of education who woke up after Lingayats, Vokkaliga associations and others warned of protests over giving up the life history of Brahmashree Narayanaguru and Periyar from the 10th standard text books and the lapses in the life histories of Bhagath Singh, Kuvempu and Ambedkar has tried to set right the anomalies."

The society will not agree to including the life history of Narayana Guru in the optional non-detailed Kannada text book, he clarified.

"The society has not forgotten the insult of rejecting the tableau of Brahmashree Narayana Guru in the recent Republic day parade in New Delhi on January 26. It appears that the government has decided that Narayana Guru society consisting of 26 groups should be in the fourth position of the backward class population which is not necessary. The government has provided thousands of crores of rupees worth packages for societies that demanded funds after us but is trying to include us in those factions. The government and ministers are publicising that they have given the name of Narayanaguru to five residential schools,” he said.

Raju Poojary Ullooru, district honorary president, Pradeep Sanil Palli, district chief secretary, Kamraj Suvarna, district vice president , Veeresh Suvarna, Kunjibettu, district chief treasurer, Rithesh Kotian, district joint secretary, Mahesh N Anchan, district organizing secretary and Prakash Poojary Ambadi were in the press conference.
