SMK, NRN, Prakash Padukone selected for Kempe Gowda International Award

Bengaluru, Jun 25: Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader SM Krishna, Infosys Founder NR Narayan Murthy and veteran badminton player Prakash Padukone have been selected for the first ever Kempe Gowda International Award, which has been instituted this year.

Announcing the selection of awardees in Bengalur on Saturday, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Higher Education Minister and Vice-President of Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Heritage Area Development Authority, said Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai will present the awards to the recipients during the grand celebration of 513th birth anniversary of Kempe Gowda at Vidhana Soudha on June 27.

Dr Narayan called on SM Krishna at his residence on behalf of the government and requested him to receive the award. Expresssing his happiness at being selected for the award, Krishna said he would be glad to accept it.

The Minister said all the three achievers have contributed in their unique way for the development of Bengaluru and the fame it has garnered.

A high-level committee headed by the Stage Star-up Vision Group Chairman Prashanth Prakash has made this selection. Industrialist Mohandas Pai, R Balasubrahmanyam, Founder of Vivekananda Youth Movement, and retired IAS officer MK Shankaralinge Gowda were members of the committee. R Vinayadeep, Commissioner, Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Heritage Area Authority was the member secretary of the committee.
The award carries a purse of Rs 5 lakh cash each along with a plaque.

BMS Evening Engg College Lateral Entry exemption only for 2021-22

The minister later clarified that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has granted an exemption for lateral B.E. entrants stipulating it only for the admissions made in BMS Engineering Evening College during the academic year 2021-22. Dr Narayan said AICTE had denied permission for lateral entry of Diploma holders. But now this has been sorted out by corresponding with AICTE.

This exemption is applicable only for those who have joined BE through lateral entry during the year 2021-22.
