Udupi: Truck driver sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, slapped fine for killing pillion rider

Udupi, Jun 25: A truck driver, who was responsible for the death of the woman, who was riding pillion with her husband on two wheeler, due to negligence and over speeding, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 9,500 by the first additional CJ and JMFC court.

Khalid (65), resident of Kundapur was driving the truck from Kodibengre to Hoode at high speed in 2014. He hit the truck to the two-wheeler, which Jayant Kunder was riding with his wife Bharathi and daughter Greeshma sitting on it.

Due to the impact of the collision, Bharathi was thrown on road and the truck ran on her causing her death instantly. Both Jayant and daughter Greeshma sustained minor injuries.

Justice Shyam Prakash who conducted the inquiry of the case sentenced Khalid to 2.5 years of prison and slapped a fine of Rs 9500.

Assistant public prosecutor Mohini K argued for the prosecution.
