L&T Infotech to Evacuate all 160 Employees from Japan

Mumbai, March 16 (IANS) L&T Infotech Wednesday ordered the evacuation of all its 160 employees and 15 family members from earthquake and tsunami-hit Japan, a company official said.

According to a spokesman, the company has chartered a Kingfisher Airlines flight which will leave Tokyo's Narita Airport late Thursday and is expected to arrive in Chennai the next day.

L&T Infotech operates two branches in Japan, one in Tokyo and Yokohama, and the employees from the both units are being recalled for a temporary period, he said.

The two branches, specializing in electronics, were set up around four years ago.

After a devastating earthquake Friday afternoon that triggered a massive tsunami, Japan now faces high risk of a nuclear fallout due to damages to three reactors.

On Tuesday, several companies like Wipro, TCS and others also said they are willing to evacuate their employees working in different parts of Japan.
