Panaji: 11-year-Old Girl Raped on Colva Beach, Goa

Panaji, March 16 (IANS): An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Goa's Colva beach by a 20-year-old man, police said Wednesday.

Police said the girl was waiting for a bus near Colva beach - 40 km from here - with her elder sister, also a minor, Tuesday night when the accused offered them sweets. He then took them to the beach and raped the 11-year-old girl behind a bush.

"We have filed an FIR (first information report) after we learnt about the incident today (Wednesday) morning. We have some leads and we are looking for the accused," a police official said. The police refused to name the accused.

Auda Viegas, who heads a local women right's group Bailancho Ekvott, said the incident only highlights the fact that beaches in Goa are not safe for women.

"It is shameful. What kind of a tourist state is this? Women are not safe in Goa. There should be more vigilance on these beach stretches during late hours," Viegas told reporters here.

    People,

Normally I dont respond to these types of stories.

However after going through Times of India link posted by Lydia Lobo, Kadri, I would like to ask What kind of parents are these who allow their 11 and 15 year children to go out overnight with their friends?

However what happened with little girl is very bad and guilty should be punished to the fullest extent of law.....Reason for these things are repeated because nobody is afraid of law ,,, nor God...Day 90% rapists are convicted and sent to prison,,, this will stop...But with Justices like Somashekhara,KG Balakrishnan and late Bhimaiha,,, what else you can expect other than this???

    Jai Hoooooooooooooooooooooooo

    Lawrence USA: Very well said.
I have a friend who blames the west for every problem that crops up in the world. Recently while discussing the killings between the sunnis and shias in Pakistan he said ‘the west is doing it’. When we spoke about Bahrain, he said ‘the west is doing it’. While talking about Libya, he said ‘west is doing it’. The beauty is that his only son is studying in USA (west) who does not want to come back. I think we have some people like Mr. Guru who are brain washed, meaning they lack reasoning power & their brain accepts only copy-paste command. They do not know what they are doing, so do not blame them.

Guru, your absolutely wrong and ignorant. If you try to come to the US thinking that rape is western culture and actually rape someone, you are done for the rest of your life. If you raise a finger against a minor child, you will not only count the bars but also the authorities will make sure that your particular hormones will not function properly for rest of your life by listing you in a National Sex Offenders Registry and your name will pop-up wherever you go! So, be careful buddy. This is western culture!

If a male rapes a woman and is then executed for doing so, he will not be able to rape anyone else. I am not suggesting he be executed based only upon someone's word as I think there should be evidence he did rape her and that it was forced. Rape is not as much about sex as it is about control. I personally believe a dead male would be far better than having a woman be forcibly raped. (I would prefer the method the woman in Sudden Impact used to kill her sisters rapist. She shot the offending parts and then waited a moment or two than shot him in the head .

Perhaps we should start teaching males in grade school who the real superior gender is so they can learn to respect girls and women more.   When we consider all violent crime it is usually a male thing. 90% of all violent crime is committed by males and oddly enough, other males are their usually victims. If you are looking for the person who has committed a violent crime, start looking for someone with testicles.

Indian men are some of the most sexually repressed in the world! Must be the amount of spices, onions, and chillies these men (sexual predators) eat! Many women in India (both adults and minors) are being repeatedly raped in their own homes by their own trusted male members of the family. This is the curse of the joint family system of India. The easy access on the internet for pornography is also compounding this menace. Many computer centers in India have closed cabins for internet surfers, where in young couples can go in and watch and do all kinds of "hanky panky" behind closed doors.

Welcome the the new Indian male sexual predator, who is more of an animal in heat, than a human being with a conscience!!!!

Mr. Guru I think you know only about your local area. Read the history and you will find the Kings what they were doing in the past. They use to bring beautiful women and make them to dance for their pleasure and they use to enjoy with them. It was their culture not western culture. Western people respect every female and honor them. It does not mean that there is NO evil here too. Yes, evil people are all over the world and all the time they are doing evil. Sins are always sins and do not differentiate by Indian sin and western sin, have some good knowledge.

Do not blame alchohol for all ill doings. You will never find a drunkard falling on the road in Goa, as you find them in Mumbai & Karnataka.   All such things happen because of immigrants & weak law & order situatin in Goa.   The minister/their sons involved in rape cases, what else you expect?

It is sad that the police and the Govt are not giving more importance to the dark sides in the famous tourist spots like Goa. I feel the police should introduce dress code for the days and for the nights.
In Mumbai, plain clothed CIDs are doing wonderful job to tap information and to catch the criminals. The Goan police too should have a network of informers who have a set-up on the beaches and the approach-road to the beaches to lookout and to inform the regional HQs if any crime is suspected or committed. There should a fleet of two/four wheelers to reach the crime spot within a shortest period and if detected the informers should be awarded secretly.
The parents of different age-group of children should know about the weird human sexual interests and protect their ward from such predators. It is astonishing to know that there is some strange human behaviour towards sexual interests that deviate from the normal sense.

Always precaution is better than panic tragedy.

the result of continuous flow of liquor and drugs in a state which itself is struggling to keep up to its name famous for free flow and drugs. goa needs to step back a bit and assess the situation. probably the youth are not having enough high drinking the acid which they prepare at home. and resort to drugs.

    Ruthless crime this!!

Off late rape of minors as young as 3 years has become rampant throughout India, everyday there are reports of such rapes. I do not understand what makes the perpetrators of this crime to rape innocent children?

I can find only one reason and that is the free exposure to pornography through the internet. The latent sexual perversity (pedophile instinct) gets fueled by observing pornographic films and further attenuated when under the influence of drugs and alcohol!!!

This also goes on to show how sexually hungry our nation is!!

Such cases has become common in Goa. Goa Govt. has failed miserably to control such anti-social activities. Even foreign women are not spared. I wonder why media like NDTV, CNN-IBN, Times Now, TV9, etc. never cover such news. Perhaps they are governed by the rules & regulations of foreign agents & so hide issues of Goa & highlight only Karnataka.

Its a pity that the government is not taking any stringent action against rapists and murderers. How I wish they would enforce a law where the punishment would be "castration" for such inhuman acts and death sentence for murderers. They have no right to destroy any childs/womans life.

The teachers/parents should inculcate moral teachings as part of education. I strongly believe in teach them when young that remains etched in the memory till death.

Love is what one should teach the young ones parents and elders be the example stop discrimination, fighting, anger and hatred towards others. Our children learn what we show them so please teach love and respect to all to your kids.

People are writing stories in this column.

There is no case where helpless women and brothers are attacked those attacked were drinking alcohol and spoiling young minds. Because of such people many yougsters are going in the wrong path.

Nityananda's case is not yet proved. The police are trying to frame a false case against him and even that they could not do so far.

The Dal groups are taking law into their hands because of the failure of the society and the Government.

Even revolutionaries during freedom struggle have broken the law for righteousness.

The mindset of people like Jossey Saldanha and Mahesh Goankar are not tuned to understand these things..

We also saw pictures of Karnataka police during Mangalore pub attack. They are very good spectators.
