Udupi: Two-day ‘Jackfruit Mela-2022’ to be held in Hiriyadka from May 28

Udupi, May 25: The two-day Jackfruit Mela- 2022 will be held on May 28 and 29 at the Mahathobhara Sri Veerabhadra temple auditorium, Hiriyadka.

This was disclosed by Dr Lakshman, associate research director, Brahmavar at a press meet held at the Udupi Press Club here on Wednesday, May 25.

The Jackfruit Mela is organised by Bommarabettu village panchayat, Hiriyadka, Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga in collaboration with Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Brahmavar and in collaboration with Agricultural Diploma College, Brahmavar, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Brahmavar and Agriculture Department and Zilla panchayat Udupi, District Krishika Sangha, Udupi, Sri Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi project, Udupi, Palli Srinivas Hegde Charitable trust, Hiriyadka, Navyodaya Friends club and KOtnakatte friends circle, Hiriyadka.



S Angara, district in-charge minister will inaugurate the programme while K Jayaprakash Hegde, president, State backward class commission will inaugurate the exhibition. Lalaji R Mendon, MLA Kaup will release the handbook (booklet).

Former MLA Vinay kumar Sorake will felicitate farmers those who are successful in farming. Dr M Hanumanthappa will deliver the keynote address. Kuylady Suresh Nayak will preside over the programme while other dignitaries, experts, resource persons will also participate in Jackfruit fest, said Dr Lakshman.

In addition to this, Dr Sudhir Kamath K V, principal, Diploma University of Agriculture said that ‘four sessions will be conducted in two days.

The first session will start at 12 pm on the first day. Dr GSK Swamy, professor, Bengaluru and Shivanna, Sakaraya Pattana will share information about jackfruit farming and other technical issues.

Prasanna Prasad Bhat, Samruddhi Mahila mandali and team will demonstrate jackfruit products and snacks.

On the second day in the morning, Sri Padre Puttur, editor of Adike Pathrikle will introduce to jackfruit farming to the public. Dr Kantharaj Y, associate professor, Postgraduation in Crop technology, College of Mudigere, Monish Malya M, owner of jackfruit shop from Panemangaluru will also share information on farming.

In the afternoon, Suma Rangappa from Koppa, an active trainer in agri-products will deliver a talk.

Over 100 stalls will be installed, and will provide 70% of the platform to local farmers. Two special jackfruit types of Nagu and Nandu which are in great demand will be brought here from Tumakuru. Two farmers will be visiting from Kerala.

Maximum slots have been allotted to local farmers and there will be a demo of value-added products, which will help a lot those who are self-employed and to emerge successful.

Thirugnanasambantham K, the principal, Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) of Mahe, other chefs and students of WGSHA will take part in the fest.

Dr Dhananjaya, senior scientist in K V K Brahmavara and Suresh Nayak, president, Bommarabettu grama panchayat were also present at the press meet.
