Bantwal: More substations being constructed to provide quality electricity – Sunil Kumar

Bantwal, May 17: “We have ensured that there is no scarcity of coal in the state so that uninterrupted quality electricity can be supplied across the state. More sub stations are being constructed so that there may be no scarcity of electricity anywhere,” said minister of Energy, V Sunil Kumar.

He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating 33/11 Kv gas insulated electric substation at Vidyagiri, Arbigudde here in the presence of Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik on Tuesday, May 17.

“5020 MW electricity is being generated in Karnataka after seven years. All the units in Raichur and Bellary have started functioning. Electricity is being supplied excellently without break in the state as coal is being supplied without interruption. The officers have overseen the work avoiding problems,” he said.

Four sub stations started

“We have started four insulated substations in two districts with 60% cost borne by the centre and 40% by the state. The work is in progress at a cost of Rs 39 crores at Bantwal, Urva, Kota and Udyavar. Among them the substation at Bantwal is inaugurated at a cost of Rs 11 crore. It has enabled us to supply quality and uninterrupted electricity to 14,000 houses in the vicinity of Bantwal.”

Recruitment of staff in progress

“As many as 899 people are newly appointed in the department. The recruitment of another 600 people has started. Staff members are being recruited wherever there is a scarcity. Applications were invited to recruit 1,500 people through KPTCL. The examinations for them will be held by June,” he said.

“I have increased the Rs 20 lac life insurance for power men to Rs 40 lac. The work on electric charging centres has begun in Mysuru. We will fix the date for the electric charging centre campaign in the state during the first week of June. We have plans to start one thousand electric charging centres. We will start the tender process appointing Mescom as the nodal office.”
