Mangaluru: Cricket league – Fight for supremacy in game by eight MLAs

Mangaluru, May 15: Political circles of Karnataka are buzzing with discussions related to the upcoming assembly elections. MLAs have started migrating to other parties also. However, MLAs of Dakshina Kannada district are battling for supremacy in the cricket field.

MLA premier cricket league is going to be held at Adyar Sahyadri grounds on May 28 and 29. The event is organized by Sankalpa Foundation.

Dr Bharath Shetty will lead the north team, D Vedavyas Kamath will lead South team, U T Khader will captain Mangaluru team, Harish Poonja will be captaining Beltangady team, Sullia team will be led by Angara, Moodbidri team will be captained by Umanath Kotian and Puttur will be led by Sanjeeva Matandoor. The names of team members will be announced soon.

This is an eight-over-a-side over arm league tournament. Quarter, Semi and finalists will be decided by points. Player of each team will have to be the member of respective legislative constituency. Voter ID and Aadhar card records will have to be produced for the same.

Winners of final match will get Rs one lac in cash and trophy, while the runners up will get Rs 50000 and trophy. In addition, there will be man of series, best batsman and best bowler prizes. The organizers have decided to give special prizes in every match.

MLAs are considering this as a prestige issue and are busy in selecting the team members. The organizers said that apart from MLAs celebrities of Sandalwood, Coastalwood, sport personalities, state ministers, MPs and MLAs of other districts will take part in the tournament.

Kiral Kodikal, chief, Sankalpa Foundation says, “Political fight is limited to elections. Once a MLA wins comprehensive development is the priority. Others are not important. With this aim, this tournament is organized under the leadership of MLAs as a cordial contest.”
