Gurugram: Excise inspector held taking Rs 2L bribe


Gurugram, May 10 (IANS): Sleuths of the Haryana Vigilance Bureau, Karnal range, on Monday arrested an inspector of the state excise and taxation department while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, officials here said on Monday.

Inspector Sumit Kumar of the Vigilance Bureau told reporters that inspector Sumitra Godara, posted at the excise and taxation department, Gurugram, was nabbed after a complaint was lodged by a person named Mohit, a resident of Faridabad.

The complainant said that he had to start a building material supply work in Faridabad and had applied for GST number at the Excise and Taxation office (ETO), but his application was rejected following which he met Godara at her Gurugram office for the GST number.

"The complainant alleged that Godara demanded a bribe of Rs 7 lakh for the GST number, asking for Rs 2 lakh as advance," Kumar added.

Kumar said the inspector was caught red-handed on Monday while accepting Rs 2 lakh bribe from the complainant. Further probe is underway.
