Mangaluru: Panchayat Raj suffering under BJP govt's apathy: MLC Manjunath Bhandary

Media release

Mangaluru, Apr 24: The power of more than one lac people in village administration in Karnataka is being shortened due to the dual policy of ruling BJP government, MLC Manjunath Bhandary has alleged.

In a media release, he has said that the grant released for Panchayat Raj is limited only to newspapers and orders. The strengthening of Panchayat Raj is totally neglected by reducing the expenses, he added.

Referring to the implementation of the three-tier Panchayat Raj system by the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1959, he said about 40 lac people in the country are village administration representatives and workers.

"At least in future, the government should wake up and realize the dream of Panchayat Raj as proposed by Baba Saheb Amedkar, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi, Ramakrishna Hegde and Naseer Saab," the MLC has said.
