Udupi: Grand finale of MAHE Manipal Fight Night concludes with stellar contests

Udupi, Apr 11: The second and final day of MAHE Manipal Fight Night, the Maiden, first its kind Mega Boxing Event organized by MAHE ended today with four more thrilling matches. The event took place at the MIT Quadrangle, from 6:30 pm onwards. The venue was jam-packed with excited spectators eager to watch the players compete and showcase their grit and strength.

The chief guest of the event was Ritika Singh, actress, and kick boxer. Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE, Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor, MAHE along with other dignitaries graced the evening with their presence.

Ritika Singh, actress, and kick-boxer said, “I thank MAHE for inviting me to this very special event. The energy and the electrifying atmosphere here were infectious. I congratulate all the participants, who entertained us all tonight with their passion and dedication towards the sport of Boxing”

Dr Vinod Nayak, secretary MAHE Sports Council said, “MAHE Manipal fight nights exceeded all expectations. The players provided us with the pleasure of watching such thrilling contests. Their talent and passion displayed were remarkable. I thank and congratulate them all. These two days have indeed been a joy to experience. TEAM MAHE displayed great teamwork and execution to make this Mega Event a huge success. We hope to continue encouraging budding sportspersons by hosting many more such events in the future”

SP Kar, director, Directorate of PR, Media & Social Media Cell, MAHE said, “I would like to thank and congratulate each and every person involved in this event. Neeraj, Ritika, and all Boxers along with officials, we are deeply proud of all of you. We wish them all the best and hope they achieve many more milestones in their careers. We are also grateful to our wonderful students the participating ones, the supporting ones, the cheering ones, and the organizing ones. Without their support, this event would not have been possible”

The mega event was anchored by emcee Aurag Bangera, the famous RJ of Dakshina Kannada.

The four matches were held in the Super Feather Weight, Super Middle Weight, light Heavyweight, and welterweight categories.

The night’s main attraction was the contest between crowd-puller 3 Times WBC Asia Title Holder Neeraj Goyat and Suresh Pasham (National Medal winner, 2018 and University National Champion). This eagerly anticipated match was won by Neeraj Goyat.

In other matches of the evening, Vikas Phangal (North India Gold Medallist) went up against Sagar Chand (4 Elite National Champ Bronze Medal winner) in the Super Feather Weight Category. The match was won by Sagar Chand (Winner).

Jaspreet Singh (Senior State Level Gold Medallist) contested Harpal Singh (Gold in TRG-CUM Comp Ireland) in the Super Middle Weight Category Harpal Singh emerged as the winner.

In the Light Heavy Weight category Mandeep Dalal (Gold Medallist Maharashtra) was up against Max (Rank 13 in German Professional Boxing). This match was won by MandeepDalal.

Knock out performances enthrall spectators on Day 1 of MAHE Manipal Fight Night.
Day 1 of MAHE Manipal Fight Night, the Maiden, first of its kind Mega Boxing Event being organized by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) formally inaugurated on Saturday April 9, with some great performances displayed by the players. The event was held at the MIT Quadrangle today from 6:30 onwards.

The mega event was inaugurated today by Dr HS Ballal, pro-chancellor MAHE and 3-time WBC Asia Title Holder and 1st Indian Boxer in WBC World Ranking, Neeraj Goyat, in the presence of Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor – MAHE; Dr PLNG Rao, pro - vice chancellor – MAHE; Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, MAHE along with MAHE officials and students.

Speaking at the event Dr HS Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE said, “We are extremely excited and pleased to be hosting this event today. The atmosphere here at the MIT Quadrangle is simply electrifying and the enthusiasm is infectious. We are glad that our students get to witness these World Class players on their very own campus. MAHE Manipal Fight Night is a grand step in showcasing MAHE’s dedication to developing a sporting culture amongst its students.

Neeraj Goyat, 3-time WBC Asia Title Holder, expressed his happiness in participating in the event saying “I visited MAHE Campus in February this year and saw the wonderful sporting facilities which all the students and faculties of MAHE are provided here. I was very excited when the idea of this event was proposed and was more than happy to be a part of it. Every player participating is extremely talented and will give their best in their respective categories. The experience of MAHE Manipal fight nights will undoubtedly be memorable for players and spectators alike”

Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE said “Each and every player participating in the event is an inspiration to the youth of our country. Their achievements in the Boxing arena fill our hearts with joy. Their dedication and hard work will encourage the next generation of boxers to strive for success with the same vigour. We at MAHE thank them for their enthusiastic participation and for giving us the privilege of watching them display their prowess in the sport of boxing”
Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, MAHE said, “This is a moment filled with pride and joy for all of us at MAHE. We are grateful for all the boxers participating in our Mega Event and wish them all the success in life. They have undoubtedly lit the fire of passion for boxing amongst all the spectators present here and inspired many to take up boxing as a professional career”

The inaugural flight was performed by MAHE Students; Bhagyashree against Reema Dsouza (women category), followed by four matches were held in the Super Feather Weight, Super Light Weight, and Light Heavyweight categories
SangeetaBirdi (British Champion) went up against Neetu (State Level Silver Medallist) in the Super Feather Weight Category. This match was won by Neetu.

Nitveer Singh (State Level Gold Medallist) contested Ankit Kumar (2 Times Silver Medallist State Level) in the Super Light Weight Category. Nitveer Singh vsAnkit Kumar (The match result was Draw)
Sandeep (2 Times Junior National Champion) fought Lovepreet (All India University Bronze Medallist) in the Super Feather Weight Category. Lovepreet emerged victorious after beating Sandeep.

In the Light Heavy Weight Category Gurpal Singh (Under 19 State Silver Medallist) was up against Akashdeep Singh (Silver Medallist State Level). This match was won by Akashdeep Singh.
