Mangaluru: Pipeline water for every household by 2023 – ZP CEO Dr Kumar

Mangaluru, Apr 10: Dr Kumar, CEO, ZP of Dakshina Kannada said that Jaljeevan Mission is an ambitious project of the union government and it aims at providing pipeline water to every household by the end of 2023.

Dr Kumar was speaking after inaugurating the one-day workshop for all engineers that was organized by Zilla Panchayat and rural drinking water and cleanliness department.

Dr Kumar further said, “Under the Jaljeevan mission, 700 works are undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 516 crore in three phases. In the first phase, 468 works are being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 179 crore. So far, 239 works have been completed. Around 29,000 beneficiaries of the project have been already identified. In the second phase, 124 works will be taken up at a cost of Rs 210 crore. Tenders, work orders and works are at the beginning stages now. In the third phase, 108 works at an estimated cost of Rs 127 crore will be taken up.”

“Seven multiple drinking water projects for villages have been planned based on the water resources of the district at a cost of Rs 487 crore. Two works are in at the tendering stage. Another five works are in the stage of preparation of the primary project report,” he said.

“Every human being has got the right to safe drinking water as well as the right to live. In addition, all have to be aware of the importance of conserving, utilisation and pure drinking water,” he added.
