Panaji, Jan 31: Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik said that his son Roy Naik has been misunderstood to one Roy Fernandes, who is in the drug trade.

“I have enough evidence to show that one Roy Fernandes was in drugs business with the blessings of then chief minister Manohar Parrikar and his MLAs during BJP government regime,” Naik told reporters today at his official residence.

He said that his son Roy Naik’s name has been unnecessarily dragged into controversy by political elements who are frustrated with the tirade against the drugs unleashed by state police.

Naik claimed that the BJP leaders were enjoying protection money from drug dealers, which has been stopped since he took over the reigns of home ministry.

Roy Naik’s name had come into focus after Swedish model Lucky Farmhouse, ex-girlfriend of Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, had said that he was frequenting to their place in Anjuna.

“Some politicians and some persons influenced by the opposition parties tried to gain publicity on the drug issue making statements in the air without any proof,” he said adding that he had referred case to CBI way back in November 2010.

Home Minister accused chief secretary Sanjay Srivastava of delaying the handing over of drug nexus probe to CBI. “I had cleared the file in November. You can ask chief secretary why he delayed handing over of the probe to CBI,” Naik said responding to a question.

The drug nexus was exposed through two sting operations in last one year. In the first spy cam video, Israeli drug peddler was shown bragging about his links with the police.

Seven policemen were arrested after the video went public.

A month back, two foreigner girls had exposed police sub inspector Sunil Guddler pushing drugs. Police are yet to arrest Guddler and case is handed over to Special Investigation Team (SIT).
