Mangaluru: Jet Air senior official found guilty of funds misuse, sentenced

Mangaluru, Mar 5: In a 23-year-old case pertaining to embezzlement of funds, the second chief judicial magistrate's court here found a senior official of Jet Airways guilty and awarded sentence. The person who has been sentenced happens to be Varadaraya Nayak (57).

Nayak was handed down the sentence of 42 months each in six cases. He had functioned as senior official in Jet Air office in Kodialbail here from 1993 to 1999. He was accused of misusing Rs 18.79 lac during this period. Six separate cases had been filed against him in Bunder police station on March 3, 1999.

Judge of the said court, Shilpa A G, who conducted the hearing, concluded on March 4 that the charges levelled against Nayak were proved. In addition to sentence explained above, a fine of Rs 12 lac was also levied. After the fine amount in each case is paid, a total of nine lac rupees has to be remitted to Jet Air Ltd, the court has ordered.

Senior public prosecutor Mohan Kumar B, had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
