Udupi: Boat capsizes - Six fishermen rescued

Udupi, Jan 28: A boat named Sri Mahadevi 370 from Malpe which had been on a fishing trip, capsized. All the six fishermen on board have been rescued.

The boat belongs to Renuka N from Nittur. At about 9 am on January 24, the boat had departed Malpe port. When undertaking fishing not far off from the shore, something hit the bottom of the boat hard as a result of which the hull broke and seawater started to gush inside.

Fishermen of Ramdoot boat that was nearby rushed to the rescue of the boat. They tried hard to pull the boat to the shore. However, as water was entering the boat fast, the boat sank by evening. The six fishermen of the boat were brought back to Malpe port by Ramdoot boat.

It is said that the boat owner has suffered a loss of about Rs 15 lac taking into account loss of net, diesel and value of fish catch which sank with the boat. Malpe police have registered a case
