Gadag: Two attacked - Youth killed, friend suffers serious injuries

Gadag, Jan 19: After two men returning home after closing their business were attacked with lethal weapons, one of them died and the other suffered grave injuries. This incident happened on the night of Monday January 17 at Nargund in the district.

Shamir Shahapur (19) from Nargund was killed while his friend, Shamshir, suffered serious injuries. Shamshir has been admitted into KMC Hospital, Hubballi, the police said.

Shamir Shahapur was operating a hotel at Nargund. He had closed down his hotel on Monday night and was returning home in the motorbike of friend, Shamshir, who had a studio nearby, when a gang attacked them.

CCTV footage from a nearby shop showed attackers holding sabers and machetes attacking one of the youngsters.

The survivor of the attack, when getting initial treatment at Nargund Hospital, reportedly told the police that when the bike reached State Bank in Nargund, Sangh Parivar activists, Praveen, Mallikarjun Hiremath and a gang of 10 to 15 people suddenly intercepted their bike and launched attack with lethal weapons. Both were taken to Hubballi in serious condition after the locals provided them treatment in nearby hospital by carrying them in an auto rickshaw. Shamir Shahapur who had suffered serious injuries in the chest and left hand passed away during the early hours on Tuesday, it is learnt. Shamshir’s condition continues to be serious.

Nargund police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
