Udupi, Jan 17: “SNGV (Sri Narayana Guru Vichara Vedike) condemns the refusal of display tableau containing idol of Brahmashree Narayana Guru on the Republic Day parade that will take place in Delhi on January 26,” said Satyajit Suratkal, state president of SNGV.

Speaking to the press in the press club of the city on Monday, Satyajit said, “Narayana Guru is the one who taught people to be independent through education, strong through organization. He is the saint, pro-humanity social reformer, who lifted the oppressed class of the society. He gave a ray of hope in the life of oppressed class. He is known as Akshara Brahma. He propagated peaceful co-existence of Hindus, Muslims and Christians. He is the one who realized the words of Adikavi Pampa who said, “Manushya Kulam Thanonde Valam.” Thinkers of India like Ambedkar, Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Ravindranath Tagore were inspired by his teachings.

“It is really painful that the central selection committee for Republic Day parade has rejected the tableau of such a great leader that was sent by Kerala. Brahmashree Narayana Guru was the one who fought for the equality of women and eradicated the classes in society based on caste and religion. The refusal of tableau of such a great inspirational leader is an unforgivable blunder. It is not right to have such ignorant people in the selection committee for Republic Day parade.

“According to some sources, there is a proposal to place the idol of Shankaracharya instead of Brahmashree. We condemn this plot. We would not have objected if only Shankaracharya’ idol was kept.

“Every Indian, who dreams of equality in society should condemn this act of the union government. This is the insult that is done to the leader of backward, oppressed and Dalit classes. I urge the central election committee to allow the tableau of Brahmashree Narayana Guru in Republic Day parade,” he said.

State vice president of SNGV Achutha Amin Kalmady, honorary president Raju Poojary Ulloor, Udupi district president Jagannath Kote and Shashidhar M Amin Vadabhandeshwara, taluk president were present.
