Panaji, Nov 27: The demarcation work undertaken by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) was stopped by the villagers of Velsao alongwith the support of Goencho Ekvott group and village panchayat members.

RVNL are given the contract for doubling the railway line by South Western Railways. Joint secretary of Goencho Ekvott Olencio Simoes said that the RVNL officials are trespassing the private properties without informing the owners. He also accused the officials of RVNL of demarking and fencing the private properties without acquisition of land.

Dourado Rodrigues, founder of Goencho Ekvott warned that it will mobilise scores of people on the streets if the railway doubling work is done against the wish of the villagers.

The villagers had opposed the attempt of doubling the railway line by SWR in 2008. Now they are again trying to repeat the act according to Olecio.
