Mangaluru, Nov 15: ICYM Central Council, diocese of Mangalore participated in field programme organised by ICYM Siddakatte unit on November 13 at Kukkedi, Siddakatte. The ICYM youth gathered to work in the paddy field of Denis Rego.
The paddy field harvested manually. The purpose of this programme was to feel one with the farmers, to understand the struggle they go through in the process of producing rice that one eats in the comforts of his home. It was also an opportunity to soil hands and be a part of the ground work.
One of the takeaways from this activity was realizing the difficulties faced by the farmers and the joy which they still sustain after a day’s hardwork. A farmer is the backbone of the nation and youth if not all at least some should take up the challenge of becoming and agri-preneur and invest in the agriculture.
The youth were enthusiastic to work in the paddy field for a whole day and it was a moment of joy and excitement in harvesting the paddy field manually. The activity came to an end in the evening. Fr Ashwin Cardoza, director ICYM Mangalore diocese, Jaison Crasta, president, Blairil Vishma D'Cunha, secretary, Rainal Goveas, president ICYM Siddakatte unit, Vivian Dany Moras, secretary, diocesan executive committee members and council members were present.
