Eggs Recalled in US Over Salmonella Scare

Los Angeles, Nov 10 (IANS) Hundreds of thousands of eggs have been recalled in eight US states for fear of salmonella contamination, officials said.

Cal-Maine Foods, the nation's leading egg distributor, ordered a recall of 288,000 eggs distributed in California, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, Xinhua reported.

Cal-Maine Foods said it ordered the recall after being alerted by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that some sample eggs tested positive in a routine test.

The company said customers should dispose of the eggs or return them to the retailer where they were purchased to receive a full refund.

There have been several recalls of eggs in the US this year. In August, two Iowa egg farms recalled 550 million eggs when the products were linked to 1,600 cases of illnesses.
