Kalaburagi: Teacher jumps into river with nine-month-old daughter

Kalaburagi, Oct 25: A government school teacher jumped into Kagina rivulet along with her nine months old daughter on Sunday October 24. Before ending lives, she left a WhatsApp status, accusing her husband of cheating her and her child.

Shantala (26), a teacher who was staying in her parental home at Bhankurana Shantanagara in Shahabad taluk in the district, and her baby, Shreya, lost their in the incident. Shantala arrived at the bridge across Kagina rivulet near Shankarwadi in the afternoon in her scooter along with her child, parked the vehicle on the bridge and plunged into the rivulet.

In the WhatsApp status, she said she hates her mother-in-law Shivalingamma, and sisters of her husband, Laxmi, Lachchu, Ansu Akka, Jagu Akka and Gowri Akka.

Shantala's marriage had taken place with Siddu Sangavi, son of Shivalingamma Sangavi, a zilla panchayat member, and former APMC president of Chittapur, the late Sharanappa Sangavi, three years ago.

Shantala's body was found near the railway bridge near Gola (K). The national disaster relief force team which arrived at the spot continued search operation till late evening on Sunday but their efforts to find the baby failed.
