Shivamogga, Oct 21: Relating to a case in which a youth had ended his life by consuming poison, the police have arrested his elder brother after a gap of five months.

Harish (29) from Andapura village in Sagar taluk in the district had ended his life by consuming poison. But the parents had expressed suspicion about his death. The police who investigated the case found that the elder brother had murdered the man.

After Harish came home drunk on May 8, there was an exchange of heated words between the parents and Harish. Hurt by this incident, Harish had consumed insecticide used for paddy crops. He had become very ill and was admitted into Sahyadri Narayana Hospital in the city. But Harish had died without responding to treatment.

''Harish's father had filed complaint in Sagar rural police station after he suspected foul play. The police came to know from the post-mortem report that Harish had died of a deep injury suffered in his head. During the investigation, Harish's elder brother was questioned. He then confessed to have murdered Harish. After Harish consumed poison on May 8, Harish's elder brother had hit Harsh hard in the head with an iron rod lying in front of his house. By then people of the village had gathered and the people were told that Harish had died of poison.

During the questioning, Harish's brother said he hit his brother in order to ensure that he alone inherits all of his father's properties. This matter came to light after five months of the death. Based on the information, Harish's brother has been arrested and questioned.
