Govt committed to the development of Valmiki community: Bommai

Bengaluru, Oct 20: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said the State Government was committed to ensure the development of the backward Valmiki community in the State and would work providing justice and opportunities for its growth.

He was addressing a function in Vidhana Soudha to celebrate the Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti and Valmiki Awards distribution on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said Valmiki community must also grow and progress like all other communities by obtaining quality education, employment opportunities and various other fields. Maharshi Valmiki was a great leader who believed in transformation of society besides being a great scholar, poet and the Ramayana epic written by him has become part and parcel of Inidans, Bommai said.

The Valmiki community has produced great warriors like Ekalavya, Onake Obavva, Sindhura Lakshmana, Halagali Bedas besides producing the Surapura dynasty that protected the Vijanagara empire and urged the leaders of the community to work for its progress and development, he said.

Social Welfare Minister B Sriramulu and Maharshi Valmiki Gurupeeth Valmiki Prasannanandapuri Swamiji participated in the function.

German Consul General meets CM

The Consul General of Germany Akhim Burkhat called on the Chief Minister in his office in the morning and discussed on various issues. Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Manjunath Prasad was present during the discussion.
