Puttur: Elderly couple battling age-related illnesses end life

Puttur, Oct 18: An elderly couple ended their lives, unable to bear the suffering due to age-related illnesses. This incident occurred at Paadekarya Mane of Badagannooru village on the night of Sunday October 17.

The deceased are identified as K Subramanya Bhat (84), resident of Badagannooru village of the taluk and his wife Sharada (78).

Both the deceased were residing with their son Nagesh Bhat. As per the details in the complaint filed by the son of the deceased couple, all family members had dinner and went to bed at 10 pm on Sunday. Both the deceased, who were sleeping in a separate room above that of the son’s family, did not get up till 6 am. When the daughter-in-law of the deceased went and checked she was shocked to see Sharada hanging from the ceiling fan with a nylon rope.

Daughter-in-law of the deceased couple informed the matter to her husband, son of the deceased couple. When they went and checked they could not find the father. On searching they saw that the elderly man was also hanging in the next room with a rope.

Sharada was suffering from diabetes and age-related illnesses. It is suspected that both the deceased were depressed because of the illness and ended their lives.

A case in this connection is registered at Puttur rural police station.
