Bantwal: Incessant rain since Tuesday afternoon causes large scale destruction

Bantwal, Oct 13: The heavy rain that has been pounding here since Tuesday afternoon, October 12 has caused large scale destruction in the taluk.

A two storeyed house under construction near Polali, Kariangala grama has collapsed. Similarly hills and property compounds have caved in damaging houses. Rain water has stagnated on vegetation damaging the produce.

Edapadav resident Ranjith had started constructing a house beside the road to the Akhileshwara temple two years ago. The work in the two storied building was about to be completed. The incessant rain on Tuesday has caused its collapse. However fortunately there was no loss of life as the house was vacant. Hundreds of curious people were seen walking towards the spot soon after the news spread.

Revenue officials and gram panchayat president Chandrahas Pallipady have visited the spot and prepared an estimate of the loss.

There are reports of hills and compound walls collapsing at several places in the taluk. A compound wall adjacent to the house of Chitravati at Kadumath, Kolnadu grama fell on her house party damaging it. However there was no loss of life. The house people are shifted to the house of her relatives for safety.

The mud from the hill near the residence of Sanjiva Poojary at Deraje Bare, Sajipanadu grama caved in but there was no loss. A border wall fell on the banana plants at Bakila, Anantadi grama but the house is not damaged. The border wall near the house of Aitappa Poojary at Ujarady, Sarapady grama fell in the torrential rain. The hill behind the house of Sesappa Naika, at Surekadu, Balthila grama has caved in. The compound wall fell on the house of Sundara at Arala grama partly damaging the house. The compound wall of Chandravati in the same grama also has collapsed. The compound wall behind Mahakali Garuda temple has collapsed. The compound fell on the front roof sheet of the house of Janaki at Mudeguri, Amtadi grama damaging the house. The roof of the house of Mohan, Koila grama fell and caused damage. The border wall beside the house of Shabir, Sajipamuda grama fell damaging the house of Ravi nearby.

The respective village accountants have visited the spots, prepared estimates of the loss and submitted it to the tahsildar.
