Karkala, Oct 6: "Everyone should respect their mother tongue. Language has the power of uniting each other. Reading books will help to enhance our knowledge. It is a contribution to the development of language," said Manohar Kamath, registrar of Konkani Sahitya Academy Mangaluru.

He was presiding over the Konkani book exhibition programme, jointly organized by St Lawrence Group of Education Institutions, Moodbbelle and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Mangaluru.

Konkani writer Joseph Quadres inaugurated the programme.

Gerald Fernandes, vice president, parish pastoral committee, Mukunda Kamath, businessman and Sunitha Kamath, head teacher were present.

Edward Larsen D’Souza welcomed the gathering , while Joseph D’Souza, physical education teacher, rendered the vote of thanks. Konkani teacher Robert Menezes compered the programme.

Dr Jagadeesh Pai, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy presided over the valedictory ceremony. Fr George D’Souza, correspondent, St Lawrence Group of Education Institutions, delivered the valedictory speech.

Students, teachers and public participated in the book exhibition.
