Puttur, Sep 23: As the prices of diesel and petrol are soaring, automatically the prices of other things are going up. Laterite stone prices have reached the sky now. People who are constructing their own houses or commercial establishments are finding it hard to stretch their budgets to meet this sudden rise in the prices of laterite stone.

Laterite stone quarries are located in different spots of the undivided district and the stones are supplied for construction works from there. While the price of cutting and removing the stones from the quarry are continuing at the same rate, their transportation is costing more because of the fuel cost that has gone up.

Jai Bharath Lorry Drivers and Owners Association has revised the price of transporting these stones.

In the past, Rs 28 to 32 was charged for transporting first grade laterite stones within six km from the city. For the second quality stones, the price was from Rs 22 to Rs 25. As per the revised prices, for the first grade stone, the price within six km is Rs 35 and second grade stone rate Rs 29.

Separate rates have also been fixed for Uppinangady, Nelyady, Kokkada, Purusharakatte, Savanur, Kudmar, Kaniyoor, Nintikal, Bellare, Tingalady, Kumbra, Karaya etc. Separate prices will be levied for distances beyond six km.
