Udupi: St Mary's Kannarpady organizes Fit India Freedom Run 2.0

Udupi, Sep 22: Accepting the invitation of FIT India Mission, to commemorate the 75th Independence Day- ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, St Mary’s English Medium (CBSE) School, Kannarpady Udupi, organized Fit India Freedom Run 2.0 with frolicsome atmosphere, on Wednesday, September 22, at 8:00 am from Mother of Sorrows Church Compound, Udupi, to the school campus at Kannarpady via Big Bazar Road. This was on the concept of ‘Physical Run’ to encourage fitness and help everyone to get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress and anxiety.

The stage was all set at Mother of Sorrows Church for the formal program which began with a beautiful prayer by the school choir led by Ms Eunice Anchan and group. It continued with Vinay Suvarna - welcoming the esteemed gathering, presided by the president of the function, correspondent Fr Charles Menezes, chief guest- A K Nagendrappa - Block Education Officer Udupi, guest of honour Gopal Shetty - the Physical Education Officer of Udupi Taluk, Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary CESU, Udupi, principal Fr Johnson Sequeira, vice principal Rita Quadros, assistant parish priest Fr AshwinArhana, vice president Boniface DSouza, secretary Benedicta Fernandes, school management committee members, students, parents and teachers. The great event was inaugurated by Fr Charles Menezes along with the dignitaries by releasing the tri-colored balloons. The whole gathering entered into the spirit of the event in a grand way with the oath, being administered by the guest of honour Gopal Shetty.

Thereafter, the chief guest A K Nagendrappa, gave a meaningful message to all the participants emphasizing on the necessity and responsibility of every individual to keep a sound mind in a sound body and the importance of overall development of childrenbeyond their studies. Later the president of the function Fr Charles Menezes delivered his message that keeping oneself busy in constructive activities makes an individual self-disciplined and goal oriented. He also stressed that this run should be throughout till we reach our goal. As a token of gratitude and appreciation, the dignitaries were honored with mementos by the principal. At 8:45 am the chief guest A K Nagendrappa flagged off to begin the race. The students from KG to Grade 12 and those of St Mary’s aided High School actively participated in 3 km race with the dignitaries and parents and teachers. The event was well coordinated by the Physical Education Teachers Gerald Pinto, Bhaskar Kotian, Renuka and Amita.

When the participants reached the school, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement. As valedictory Vinay Suvarna proposed the vote of thanks to each and every one. Thus the FIT India Run 2.0 provided an opportunity to all to ease out the mental and physical tension of all.
