Bengaluru: Defection of MLAs - Shivakumar, Yediyurappa, issue contrasting statements

Bengaluru, Sep 21: By saying that he would not leak the secret about the 'Operation Hasta', through which some BJP MLAs are being wooed into the Congress, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar, has maintained suspense on the much talked-about move.

"People keep speaking about Operation Lotus, Operation Hasta etc. We will use our tactics but we will not let out the secrets," he said on Monday September 20. Speaking to media representatives, he challenged the BJP to reveal the names of people with whom they are in talks with, so that the Congress too can bring out the details.

In the meantime, former chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, pooh-poohed Shivakumar's claims. He dismissed talk of BJP legislators defecting to the Congress camp. "In fact, many Congress legislators are ready to side with the BJP," he reiterated. He said that who these MLAs are will become public in the coming days, and that the BJP will win over 140 seats in the next assembly election.
