Bengaluru: Giraffe dies after its neck gets entangled in mesh

Bengaluru, Sep 20: In a tragic incident which happened in Bannerghatta Biological Park here on Sunday September 19, a giraffe lost its life after its neck got entangled in the iron mesh.

This giraffe had been brought from Mysuru zoo during the coronavirus first wave. It was three and half years old. It extended its neck near the mesh to eat food but after its neck got entangled it could not breathe and therefore lost its life.

This giraffe had been brought from Mysuru under the animals exchange programme to give company to the lone female giraffe here. The keeper had gone away to have lunch on Sunday afternoon. On his return, he saw that the giraffe was struggling to get its neck released. By the time he summoned help from other employees, the giraffe had breathed its last, Vanashree Vipin Singh, executive officer of the park, said.
