Chitradurga, Sep 18: A driver raped a lady who is dumb at 10 pm on Thursday September 16 at Tuppadahalli Lambanihatti village in Holalkere taluk in the district. The Holalkere police succeeded in arresting him within an hour of registering the complaint. The offender was arrested, produced in the court and remanded to judicial custody.

The arrested youth has been identified as Nagesh alias Nagaraj (30), a resident of Laxmisagar in Chitradurga taluk. He was a lorry driver by profession. The aggrieved lady had visited a relative in Davanagere. She had returned by a bus and got down at Tuppadahalli from where she was walking towards her home in Lambanahatti village by the side of areca plantation.

At about 9.30 pm, Nagaraj, who stealthily followed the lady, dragged her away and raped her. He also tried to murder her but the lady escaped from his grip by biting his palm hard. She ran away to her village and narrated the tale of woe to the family members in her own way.
