State Govt ready for an open debate on NEP, says Bommai

Bengaluru, Sep 15: The State Government is ready for an open debate on the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and there is no need for any misgivings on the issue, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after launching various developmental works as part of the 161 st birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visveswaraya organised by Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), he said NEP aims to provide good and quality education to youth to pave the way for their future in accordance with the needs of the times.

He also inaugurated a 160 ft high fountain installed by BBMP. The Chief Minister promised to constitute a committee on secondary education before going ahead with the changes. He garlanded the statue of Sir Visveswaraya at KR Circle in the City and said BBMP will be developing 30 junctions in different parts of the city as part of its beautification drive.A plaza and mini library will also be included in the junctions, he said.

Engineers Day

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Engineers Bhavan built by Karnataka Engineering Service Society and the Engineers Training Centre in connection with its centenary celebrations.

Bommai said Sir Visveswaraya was a great engineer and one of the most capable person who is really an embodiment of all the working classes.

The contribution of Sir Visveswaraya in nation building activities such as construction of irrigation dams, power generation and in the education field are enormous, which makes all Kannadigas proud, he said. Public Works Minister CC Patil, Water Resources Minister Govind M Karjol, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta, Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Manjunath, Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad, Karnataka Engineering Service Society Peethambaraswamy and others were present.
