'PM Modi sent me money..': Bihar man refuses to return wrongfully credited funds

Patna, Sep 14 (IANS): A man in Bihar's Khagaria district received Rs 5.5 lakh in his account by a bank error, but refused to return the amount, claiming the money "was sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi".

The Gramin Bank in Khagaria had mistakenly sent the money to Ranjit Das, a native of Bakhtiyarpur village under Mansi police station, and despite several notices, Das refused to return the amount, saying he had spent it.

"I was very happy when I received the money in March this year. I thought as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised every one of depositing Rs 15 lakh in their bank account,I thought that it could be the first installment of it. I have spent all the money. Now, I did not have money in my bank account," Das, who has been arrested, said in a statement to police.

Mansi Station House Officer Deepak Kumar said: "We have arrested Ranjit Das on the complaint given by the manager of the bank. Further investigation is on."

Rs.5.5 lakhs is peanuts 🥜 a drop of water💧in a mighty ocean for the banks and financial institutions Mansi Station House Officer Deepak Kumar and the Bank Manager should get a kick on their butts for directly harassing Ranjit Das as if he's a "criminal" Firstly they should recover crores and crores of unaccounted money from corrupt politicians. When RBI can write-off huge insolvency and declare banks as loss making and NPA classic case, here Bank Punjab & Maharashtra Co-Op Bank Ltd., they dance to the tune of corrupt politicians likewise too this case should be treated as "bad debts" and writen-off. If any citizen would get a lottery like this I bet no one would think twice before spending.

Its was the man's moral duty to contact the bank and get the error rectified, but instead he spent all the amount. How is the bank going to collect now? The guy deserves it for acting stupidly. You don't ever read the news properly. Read it again

Veer, Nagpur Let the Bank Manager pay for this mistake directly or indirectly for the blunder. By the way, why are they crying foul now when they could've immediately debited the money from his account when they discovered the goof-up instead of wasting time and sleeping over it. Sending notice is not the right procedure. Also it's foolish on the part of the Bank Manager to arrest Ranjit Das to cover up his irresponsibility when the account has gone negative.
