Mangaluru: Neermarga church YCS unit celebrates Teachers' Day

Mangaluru, Sep 13: Young Catholic Students (YCS), Neermarga Unit under the able auspices of Fr Anil Canute D'Mello, director of YCS and parish priest and animators organized a felicitation programme recently to acknowledge and applaud the invaluable beneficence and commitment of the teachers to the society and world at large.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Fr Anil D'Mello, parish priest, 50 teaching faculty of the parish, Ravi Saldanha, vice president, parish pastoral council and animator of YCS, Prakash Pereira, secretary, parish pastoral council, Sr Laveena AC, superior of Carmel Ashram, Sr Rufina, superior of Holy Cross Convent, gurkars of the 16 wards , Kevin Vas, president of ICYM and Rovin Fernandes, YCS outgoing president.

Ancita Crasta and Arvin Seth D'Souza flawlessly emceed the programme by preparing unique software for teachers portraying the theme ‘Teachers Are Our Greatest Treasures ‘by Unveiling 6 secrets.

2. Teacher the Facilitator
3. Teacher the Guru
4. Teacher the Reformer
5. Teacher -A Role Model
6. Teacher the Counsellor.

The programme embarked on with an Invocation Dance choreographed by Rovita Lasrado, that lured the Heart of the Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent God.

With ardent zeal, Rovin Fernandes and Evita Saldanha accorded a hospitable, sociable and genial welcome to the dignitaries through sweet flowing words. Graceful dances to the famous folk song from Daman-  Maria Pitache and Mog Mullar by the dancing dancers was a magnificent performance out to create rhythmic thrills of sheer excellence.

The programme was interspersed with spot games which zoomed the spirits of both youth and teachers alike and prizes were distributed to the winners by Fr Anil D'Mello.

The youth then took the audience to a tour down memory lane- it was a medley of music, dance and drama entitled ‘Teacher - A Beacon of Light’ written and directed by Ancita Crasta, that enthralled the spectators and left them spellbound.

Jokes enacted by Lishon Pereira, Ashton D'Souza, Astel Crasta, Christopher D'Souza and Viston Shon Dias, ripped open the flood gates of laughter. Touching songs thanking the teachers were melodiously sung by the youth.

Fr Anil D Mello, a leader and educationist who inspires the Flock entrusted to his care with his exemplary life, in his Presidential Address greeted the teachers and appreciated their hard work, perseverance and fortitude and spotlighted on the saying ‘Mother is the First Teacher and Teacher is the Second Mother ‘and shared his thoughts and reflections on ‘The Role of a Teacher’.

Sheldon Peres and Jeshma Saldanha proposed the vote of thanks.
