Udupi: Day-long workshop ‘Anthyodaya’ held to raise awareness on various govt schemes

Udupi, Sep 8: A day-long district level workshop titled ‘Anthyodaya’ on different schemes and programmes of Backward Classes and Social Welfare department was held at Amrith garden, Ambagilu here on Wednesday September 8.

The programme was organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat Udupi and Backward Classes Welfare department.

Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary inaugurated the workshop. Addressing the gathering, he said, “This workshop is organized to create awareness about various schemes of respective departments among people. The ultimate aim of the programme is every person in the society should get benefits. The government grants should be utilized completely. The administration should be transparent and corruption-free.

“There are 45 to 48 lac people in Scheduled Tribes. Rs 18,000 crore is kept for Scheduled Caste in the budget, Rs 8000-Rs10,000 is announced for Backward Class in the budget.

“There are 200 seats vacant in Morarji Desai School. It will be filled from tomorrow. No one should be deprived of the government benefits,” he said.

K Jayaprakash Hegde, president of State Backward Classes Commission said, “When passing a bill for any class, no one will ask about caste. Only social and educational matters are important in the census. We have the right to give reservation in education and employment. There is no possibility of giving political reservation. Any Commission can send a report or proposal to the government. It does not have the right to approve or take any decision. Bills are framed with utmost care, No one can change or amend them easily.

“Kudubi community of Udupi is really eligible to be added to the Scheduled Tribes’ list, he said urging the concerned officers to look into the matter. He also said that such workshops are required to reach the general public. Hegde
