Moodbidri, Sep 7: A temple worker turned panicky at the fact that the elephant which he was trying to feed suddenly turned angry and trumpeted. In a haste, he fell on the stone floor and died on the spot. This incident happened in the outer precincts of Kodyadka temple here on Monday September 6.

The mahout of the elephant was away to bring horse gram for feeding the elephant when another worker of the temple, Vishwanath Devadiga (58), approached the elephant. The elephant, which was in a bad mood, suddenly trumpeted unexpectedly. Vishwanath, residing near the industrial yard of Karkala, turned jittery and started running. When going away in a hurry, he slipped on the wet stoned floor and suffered serious injuries. Even though he was taken to hospital immediately, the doctors on his arrival said he had already died.

A complaint in this connection was filed in the police station here by Sunanda, elder sister of the deceased.
