Panaji: Olencio of fishermens’ union joins Congress from AAP

Panaji, Aug 31: In a function that was held on Sunday, August 29 at Pajentar, Cortalim, Gopi Naik and Olencio Simoes, two prominent members of the fishermens’ union joined Congress. They were welcomed into the party by Girish Chodankar, state Congress president and opposition leader Digambar Kamat.

Olencio was formerly with AAP. He is the nephew of former tourism minister Matanhy Saldanha. Congress president Chodankar said that BJP has destroyed the legacy of Saldanha.

In the meantime, Olencio also submitted a long list of demands of the fishermen, to Chodankar and Kamat, that were not yet fulfilled by the government. Olencio was accompanied by members of Goa United Workmen Union (GUWU) and Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott.
