Udupi, Aug 28: Udupi district is fast moving towards becoming a safe zone, with the successful third mega vaccination Mela. Out of 20 lac doses planned to be administered to ten lac people above the age of 18 years, the district has distributed 9.57 lac doses.

During the last two days, 50,000 doses of the vaccination were received. In the next month, over a lac doses may be received. The Friday target of 40,000 is likely to be achieved. On Saturday, 18,700 doses have been allotted. This can be utilised by pregnant women, puerperal women, people above 18 years of age and those who are yet to get second dose of the vaccine at the nearest centre

By November end, 80 percent of people would have got the first dose and 50 percent would have got the second dose. The district will move towards becoming a safe zone and the fear of corona will automatically be driven away. The health department officials say that by November end, the people who have got the first dose of vaccination might touch even 90 percent.

Udupi district stands second in the percentage of first and second doses administered and also among the districts with least wastage of vaccines. The district has signs of being able to bring the positivity rate to within two percent as the average of the last three days was 1.45 percent. By the end of this month, efforts are on to bring it further down to below one percent.
