Udupi: Bike-borne miscreants snatch gold chain from shopkeeper

Udupi, Aug 24: Two bike-borne miscreants snatched the golden chain from the neck of the shopkeeper on the pretext of buying cigarette. This incident occurred at Gundupade, Pernankila village in the district on August 23.

As per the complaint filed by the victim of the incident Ramanna Nayak (75), he was doing business at his shop which is adjacent to his residence at Pernankila village. When he was doing business on the evening of August 23, two bike-borne strangers arrived near his shop. One person sat on the bike and kept it in running condition. The pillion got down from the bike and went to the shop and asked for a cigarette. When the shopkeeper was taking the cigarette from the pack, he suddenly snatched the chain from his neck and escaped in the bike along with his accomplice.

The golden chain weighed 12 to 16 grams worth Rs 40,000. Both miscreants escaped in the bike which was not having any registration number plate.

A case in this regard is registered in Hiriyadka police station.
