Davanagere: Accidental firing from pistol - Assistant drill inspector killed

Davanagere, Aug 24: Chetan (29), an assistant drill inspector with the district armed reserve police force, lost his life after a pistol accidentally went off. The incident happened on Monday August 23.

The armed reserve police force personnel had returned to the district headquarters on Monday after attending firing training session near Hunasakatte in Davanagere taluk. When the staff were cleaning the pistols, a bullet which got accidentally fired from a pistol hit the neck of Chetan. He was immediately taken to hospital but his life could not be saved.

Chetan was from Malahal village in Channagiri taluk in the district. He joined police department in 2012. He used to provide training to new recruits to the armed reserve police through drills.

Chetan had come to the centre to talk to the staff after the said training, when tragedy struck. Chetan, who had married after falling in love, has left behind his wife and a four-year-old son.
