Mangaluru: St Agnes college holds ‘Fundamentals of Research and Publication’ event

Mangaluru, Aug 11: The professor and former HoD in the Department of Chemistry, NITK, Surathkal Dr Arun was speaking at ‘Fundamentals of Research and Publication’ event organized at Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Wednesday August 11.

The event was organized by Post Graduate Department of Psychology at St Agnes College (Autonomous) in association with the Research Committee.

Hailed as one of the five top researchers in India as per Scopus survey, Dr Arun apprised the faculties, the scope of Research and ways to enhance the Manuscript Writing Skills. “While ethical approach must be maintained throughout the Research, Research Aspirants must also pay attention to; writing style, language, structure of the paper, acknowledgement to the contributors and resources,” he said.

Speaking at the inaugural Dr Jenifer Lolita C, joint director of Collegiate Education of the Mangaluru region spoke on the importance of writing academic work and conflicts facing the researchers in the current times. “We can do a lot of research but we become shy about projecting our data because we think it is not good enough. Our work has quality. But we need to learn how to put it across in research papers. This programme aims at empowering faculty with the same,” she said.

Speaking at the inaugural the principal of St Agnes College Sr Dr Venissa A C said that a reputable institute is identified by the quality of research that is produced from its pupils. “A good institute inculcates the research skills in students. Even the National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes these skill sets,” she said.

Principal added that institute must identify the technical difficulties that discourage faculty members from getting their manuscripts published. Institutions must help those under its wings through capacity building programs in research, she said.

Sr Roopa Rodrigues, vice principal, Sr Carmel Rita A C the administrator, Sr Dr Vinora A C, pg coordinator, Charles Pais, the registrar, organising secretary, Dr V Premanand, convener of the event, Dr Nancy H Vaz were present at the occasion.
