M'luru: Srinivas University announces early adoption of NEP in UG, PG, research programmes

Mangaluru, Aug 10: Srinivas University, Mangaluru reacted quickly to the State Education minister’s announcement of early adoption of National Education Policy 2020 from the coming academic year. In its board meeting held on Monday August 9, 2021, the chancellor Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao and all board members have approved the proposal of early adoption of National Education Policy which is futuristic, innovative, student-centered, and faculty-focused.

Karnataka State Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayana has taken a keen interest in implementing NEP 2020 in all universities of Karnataka state. Responding early to his call, Srinivas University has analyzed the positive features of NEP-2020 and with certain progressive modifications,has decided to implement it from a forthcoming academic year at all its undergraduate, postgraduate, and research course levels. Accordingly, all its BA, B Sc, BBA, BMS, BCA, students have the option to pursue three years pass degree course or four years Honours degree course, or five years Integrated Master’s degree course after 12th standard.

Students can also exit after one year of undergraduate study with a Certificate, after two years of undergraduate study with a diploma. The university also offers two years Master’s degree programmes for three years Pass degree holders, and one year Master’s degree course for four years honours degree holders. Accordingly, programmes like M Tech, MS, MPT, MHM, and M Sc (Nursing) will be also of one year duration. Further, four years honours degree graduates can pursue a PhD programme directly without doing a Master’s degree course provided they get eligibility through NET/SLET/University admission test.

Going deep into NEP proposals, university also decided to offer many free-ships to waive 100 percent course fees and many scholarships to waive 50 percent course fees to academically bright students of Karnataka state. As per NEP 2020, the university offers single super-specialty programmes, dual specialty programmes, One major and two minor subjects’ programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

However, MBA and MCA will be of two years programmes due to their broad entry backgrounds and the objectives of creating strategic entrepreneurs as business/technology leaders. The university has also taken measures to offer research & skill focused quality education at all three levels and to create student innovators by means of Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) and by intensifying faculty research and scholarly publications, the vice-chancellor Dr P S Aithal said.
