Beltangady: Man trying to sell deer pelt arrested

Beltangady, Aug 4: A person in possession of a deer pelt had arrived at Dharmasthala from Belagavi. Based on reliable information, a team led by Puttur forest mobile squad sub-inspector Janaki, arrested the accused on Tuesday August 3.

The arrested man has been identified as Hanumantha (32) from Tigadi village, Bailahongala taluk in Belagavi district. He had come here by a private bus from Belagavi with the purpose of finding a buyer for the pelt. He reached Dharmasthala bus stand at 9.15 am on Tuesday August 3. The forest mobile squad, which arrested the accused, also took into possession a deer pelt which was 46 inches long and 30 inches wide.

He was produced in the Beltangady court whereupon he was remanded to two weeks judicial custody. For further investigation, the accused was handed over to the forest department.
