Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Aug 3: At the very beginning of the fishing season, a boat accident was witnessed near the estuary near Gangolli port. Fishermen in the boat however survived the ordeal.

A fishing boat named 'Parashakti' owned by G Prakash with four fishermen was moving to undertake fishing when water entered the boat and the boat sank. Later, the boat was dragged to the shore with the help of two mechanized boats.

Gangolli Primary Fishermen's Cooperative Society president, Sadashiva Kharvi, said that dredging operations have not been undertaken at the Gangolli estuary for the last many years and that repeated pleas made to the government officials have not succeeded in making any impact. He urged the department to undertake dredging at Gangolli fishing port and estuary as the accumulated silt has been endangering the fishing boats and the fishermen.
