Karkala: Annual celebration of proclamation, dedication of Attur St Lawrence Minor Basilica on Aug 1

Karkala, Jul 30: The fifth annual day celebration of the proclamation and dedication of St Lawrence Minor Basilica Attur will be held on August 1.

St Lawrence Shrine Attur was declared as minor Basilica on August 1, 2016. In remembrance of proclamation and dedication of the Minor Basilica, with the theme ‘Let us strengthen our faith in the times of sickness and danger’, a grand Eucharistic celebration will be headed by Fr Walter D’Mello, judicial vicar, diocese of Mangalore and Udupi at 10 am.

Prior to this, nine-day novena towards the titular feast will be inaugurated by Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar at 9.45 am.

The nine-day novena prayers will be offered by various priests from diocese of Udupi and Mangaluru With this theme ‘Let peace, happiness prevail in our families through the intersession of St Lawrence’, on Tuesday August 10, the titular feast of St Lawrence will be celebrated. Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, bishop, diocese of Udupi, will preside over the grand Eucharistic celebration on August 10 at 10.30 am. On the same day, other festive Eucharistic celebrations will be held at 8 am and 4 pm.

Since recent years, many developmental activities have been carried out at the Basilica for the convenience of the devotees.
