Mangaluru: Patient with AMSAN-GB syndrome, dengue recovers at Srinivas Hospital

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Parvathy (43) was referred to Srinivas Hospital with dengue positive report and severe Thrombocytopenia. She was worked up an admitted in the ICU.

During her stay in the ICU she developed arreflexic hypotonic ascending bilateral Hemiparesis with sensory loss. A Nerve Conduction Velocity Study confirmed the diagnosis as AMSAN-GB syndrome. The treatment options and the financial implications were discussed with the patients relatives. Human IVIG was sourced and started as per standard guidelines.

With regular physiotherapy and her family's encouragement, the patient started improving well above expectations. She could mobilise her lower limbs and she was shifted to the wards. Physiotherapy and dedicated care continued. Patient was able to walk around with support. This was a case of post dengue GB Syndrome managed in the hospital.
