Panaji: Major fire breaks out at decorator's storeroom, estimates loss of Rs 50 lac

Panaji, Jul 13: A major fire broke out at a storeroom in Varca causing a loss of more than 50 lac after decorative items were gutted. The storeroom was owned by Tennyson Rosa, who has a decoration business.

"His decorative items and models like sofas, lights, stands, curtains, styrofoam, cloth and other such materials were stored in the room which were reduced to ashes due to the fire," Shailesh Gawde, Margao fire station officer said. Gawde said that they received the fire call at 12.27 pm.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained although an electrical short circuit is suspected, he said. Gawde said that four fire tenders from Margao, Verna, Ponda and Curchorem were used to fight the fire besides refilling two tenders twice during the three and half hours of fire fighting operation.
